This costume was an after-the-fact one. I made the dress for one reason, the wings for another, and one day when browsing Amy Brown's site I realized that the two together with a pair of striped tights looked at lot like many of her fairies.
The wings were made as part of my senior-year art show in college, after I was inspired by the work of various and sundry wing makers around the Web. Since those folks are quite tight-lipped when it comes to sharing information on how they make their goodies I had to use the trial-and-error method. The wings are my second set, crafted of sparkle organza over a wire frame. They are hand-painted with thinned acrylics and accented with purple glitter. The harness is decorated with wisteria blossoms.
The dress was originally intended to be a reproduction of the one worn by Milia Jovovich in the film Resident Evil, but it didn't work out as well as I would have liked. It was made with Butterick # 6756 out of violet crepe with a stretch chiffon underskirt. Though difficult to see, there was indeed a pair of purple and black striped tights worn at the shoot.
