Alice

Game: American McGee's Alice
Constructed: Spring 2004
Time: 8 hours
Cons: None

This was 2001's Halloween costume, borne out of depression, hardship... and unnatural glee at the twisting of one of my favorite stories. ^_^ I mean, Alice in Wonderland goes goth. What's not to love?

If necessity is the mother of invention, then laziness and lack of cash give birth to creativity. There wasn't money to buy boots like the buckled, industrial goth ones from the game, nor did I have access to suitable materials to modify boots I already had. So I mixed and matched my references. Most of the costume is based on the game, except for the tights and ankle boots, which are from the artwork. The gothic cross necklace also was not exact, but it fit well.

The dress and pinafore were made using Butterick # 6816, with the sleeves coming from Simplicity # 9225 and a nylon net petticoat underneath to fluff out the skirt.

The costume was tweaked in 2004 to more accuately reflect the character design.
