As soon as I saw Chamber of Secrets I knew I wanted to make a Moaning Myrtle costume. I identify with that girl. She has the same kind of luck I do. I mean, tragically murdered by a hideous beast only to get stuck haunting a toilet? That's me all over the place!
I know from keeping my ear to various Harry Potter costuming groups that the 1940's Hogwart's uniforms are different than the ones Harry and company wear. While I cared about accuracy, I didn't care enough to work myself into a tizzy trying to locate reference material and then hunt down just the right kind of tie. Good thing too, because there is a serious drought of both!
The only part I sewed myself was the robe, using the same pattern I used for my Jedi robe, omitting the lining. The rest of the pieces I bought. I lack the knowledge to knit my own sweater nor am I masochistic enough to piece together strips of fabric to make a striped tie. Said tie and the Hufflepuff House patch were purchased off Ebay. The skirt came from Frenchtoast.com and the sweater from Harry Potter Wizard Store. Blouse, Mary Janes and knee socks I already owned. |
