Rose Bride Accessories

I have made so many sets of these, I decided to write up a page and spill all my secrets. Well, not all my secrets. If you want step-by-step directions you'll have to pay for them. ^_~ Yeah, I knew that one would go over like a lead balloon... On with the show!

  • Epaulettes - Estimated cost to reproduce: $30 USD - Crafted of lightweight foam and hand-painted in a variety of colors. The most recent set is animation-accurate yellow. "Inca Gold" is a bright, buttery color I chose to begin using because I felt it looked nicer on real people while still having that cel-painted look. Then there's "Shiny Gold" the metallic finish most often associated with items meant to be gold-colored metal. The accent cord is purchased to coordinate with the particular color being used. The epaulettes attach to the costume with coordinating Velcro™ strips.

    The tassels I craft myself from embroidery floss for the best color match. The brooch is custom-cast from resin, accented by an acrylic cabochon and features a pin back.

  • Tiara - Estimated cost to reproduce: $20 USD - Made by hand from fabric. I first cut it to shape and soak it in a solution that makes the fabric stiff. Once dry it's finished and painted. Occasionally I attach small beads to the tips of the points. Some close-ups in the animation do depict the tiara as having small round finials, but these are often omitted in the artwork. Both ways are right and it's a matter of personal taste.

  • Rose Bride Earrings - Estimated cost to reproduce: $10 USD - These are crafted with glass beads and gold-plated findings. Both pierced and clip-on styles are possible.

  • Epaulettes - Estimated cost to reproduce: $40 USD - Like the Rose Bride tiara, these are crafted from stiffened fabric and painted in a variety of finishes. Purchased cording and fringe with cast resin brooch. These attach to the costume with coordinating Velcro™ strips.

  • Rose Crest - Estimated cost to reproduce: $10 USD - Cast resin with a military pin back.

  • Juri's Sword - Estimated cost to reproduce: $75 USD - Crafted of wood, plastic and epoxy clay, finished with metal leaf.

  • Juri's Movie epaulettes - Estimated cost to reproduce: $30 USD - Custom-finished foam with Velcro™ attachments and purchased cord. The resin brooch fastens with a pin back.

  • Juri's TV series epaulettes - Estimated cost to reproduce: $25 USD - I made these to go with my costume, which promptly got ruined and they were all I could save. Crafted of modeling compound with matching cord and Velcro™ attachments. A military pin back fastens the cord to the wearer's lapel. Future versions will be crafted from foam like my Rose Bride epaulettes.

  • Custom Black Rose Duelist Epaulettes - Made on commission. The cosplayer was constructing an original duelist uniform based off the designs of those in the Black Rose Saga. The epaulettes she designed are a hybrid of Wakaba's and Juri's. Crafted from foam, with custom tassels and drops. Like all my other epaulettes, they attach with Velcro™
